After Age Group Nationals, Kelsey headed immediately to Rimini, Italy for the ITU Short Course Duathlon World Championships on September 27. The course consisted of a 10-km run, 40-km bike and 5-km run.
Unfortunately, Kelsey was sick for the 2-3 days leading up to the race and the team doctor even attempted to give her an IV a couple of hours before race start. The team officials convinced her to race anyway and she did a great job finishing with a very fast overall time (and an especially fast bike split). Although she was disappointed she did not have the tough international competition she was expecting in her 18-19 age group, her finish time (2:26:37) put her in the top twenty percent of all female age group racers and was only two minutes out from Gold in the 20-24 age group and Silver in the 25-29 age group.
Congratulations again to Kelsey on a great performance! All of Thunder is proud to have you as a team member.
