On Tuesday, May 10, 2005, around 11:50 am, Cory Horton, a popular Memphis-area swim coach and competitive triathlete, collided with a tractor-trailer while cycling in Fayette county, just east of Memphis, Tennessee. He was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, but despite all efforts, he was injured too severely to survive and passed away two days later, May 12, 2005.
Cory was one of the founding members of the Memphis Thunder Racing triathlon team.

In the words of Bill Taylor, Head of St. George's Independent School, Collierville, Tennessee
”Cory Horton leaves behind a rich legacy to those who have learned from him. These lessons were taught with care and compassion, emphasizing a love of life, perseverance, optimism, and humility. While his untimely and tragic death leaves us saddened and bewildered, we are bolstered by a remembrance of how Cory lived his life and the joy he derived from it. As such, we know that, even in death, Cory’s spirit lives.”
In rememberance of Cory, Memphis Thunder Racing members proudly
wear his name on our team apparel.
