Meneley brings home hardware at the 70.3 World Championship!

Published on 11/15/2009

Memphis Thunder Racing team members Jeff Fejfar and Sandy Meneley traveled to Clearwater this past weekend to compete at the 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.

Due to windy conditions lingering from Tropical Storm Ida, race directors changed the swim from the gulf to the harbor of Clearwater Beach.  Race day conditions ended up perfect with almost no wind for the first two hours of the event, but everything had already been moved.  This world championship event brought together athletes from over 60 countries to swim 1.2-miles through the harbor, bike 56-miles along the almost perfectly flat course around Clearwater and Tampa Bay, and then complete a two loop, 13.1-mile run course.

In only Sandy's second half-Ironman distance event, she was able to finish up with a 2:01:30 half-marathon split and run herself into 3rd place for her age group!

Congratulations to both of you on your World Championship finish!
